Pharrell Williams to Co-Produce Musical Film Inspired By Childhood

Pharrell Williams is co-producing a musical film that is said to be inspired by his childhood spent in Virginia Beach. The name of the film is Atlantis and has been picked up last week by Fox. It has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as a “Romeo and Juliet-style love story with a music element.”

Atlantis will focus on Williams’ early years in Virginia Beach and could potentially explore his collaboration with Neptunes partner Chad Hugo. The two met during a summer camp before forming a teenage band that also included future N.E.R.D. collaborator Shay Haley. Teddy Riley discovered the group during a high school talent show, which resulted in the launching Williams’ career.

Williams will be in good company in producing the film, with Broadway director Michael Mayer joining forces in working on the project as well. Mayer is best known for 2006’s Tony-winning Spring Awakening as well as the stage adaptation of Green Day’s American Idiot. The project will also feature Martin Hynes as the writer who is reportedly writing Toy Story 4.

As of right now there is no projected date for the film’s release, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on any further news to be released about this exciting new project of Williams’!
