A 42 year old Australian man, who was impersonating Justin Bieber, has been arrested and charged with over 900 child sex offences.
The Australian Police have asked the parents of Justin Bieber fans, and the fans themselves, to stay aware when going on to the internet. This comes after the man from Melbourne, who has a history of sexual offences, was pretending to be Justin online to get explicit images of children.
The man has been named as Gordon Chalmers and used Facebook and skype to contact his victims. The police examined his personal computer and found indecent photos dating back to 2007. Following the examination, Gordon Chalmers has been charged with 931 offences.
“The fact that so many children could believe they were communicating with this particular celebrity highlights the need for a serious rethink about the way we educate our children about online safety,” Jon Rouse, an official of a police taskforce to fight child exploitation online.
