Joni Sledge has sadly passed away at her home in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday the 10th of March. A friend of Joni found her body, according to Biff Warren, a publicist. We are still unaware of the cause of death.
Joni’s family released the following statement, which has been reported by the Guardian. “On yesterday, numbness fell upon our family. We welcome your prayers as we weep the loss of our sister, mother, aunt, niece and cousin,”
Sister Sledge was formed by Joni and her sisters, Kim, Kathy and Debbie in 1971. Sister Sledge struggled for eight years trying to gain some form of success. The band then met Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers who helped write and produce the album ‘We Are Family’. The album was a huge success and went on to sell over one million copies.

They had their first UK Number One with the hit ‘Frankie’ in 1985. Kathy left Sister Sledge to pursue a solo career, but the band continued to play together. Their last performance was in October 2016.
You will be sadly missed, Joni.
